A community project maintained by lavavex has adapted RPCS3, the PlayStation 3 emulator, to run as a native homebrew app on a jailbroken PS5. The experimental project is not an official Sony feature or an RPCS3-team release.
RPCS3 as native PS5 homebrew
The project builds RPCS3 as a PS5 homebrew title rather than running the emulator inside Linux. Its graphics path uses Vulkan through a community RADV port, while PS5 system interfaces handle DualSense input and audio.
What lavavex reports for two games
lavavex reports that Need for Speed Carbon (BLUS30016) is fully playable at 60 fps on a PS5 Pro running firmware 13.60 with the Relapse jailbreak.
For inFAMOUS (BCUS98119), lavavex reports that the game boots and plays but stutters and falls below full speed in some areas.
Native homebrew and the Linux route
With the native project, RPCS3 runs as a PS5 homebrew application. In a separate approach, RPCS3 runs inside Linux installed on a modified PS5. These are distinct ways to run the emulator.
The project’s experimental scope
lavavex says testing has been limited to one console and a small number of games. Most games remain untested, and the project warns that games may crash or freeze. Its repository contains source code and build scripts, not a prebuilt application.
