Counter-Strike for Android
Counter-Strike

Released in 1999 as a modification of Half-Life, Counter-Strike rose to fame in internet cafés as one of the best online action and counter-terrorism FPS games. Over the last decade the franchise had several sequels where the theme was always the same: two teams, terrorists and counter-terrorists, face off in various locations around the world. If you are a fan of this FPS series, then you will like this news, since this time a dedicated fan took on the task of adapting the first version of the game, Counter-Strike 1.6, to Android devices.

To play Counter-Strike on Android the programmer Alibek Omarov developed the client that allows the operating system to run the game on mobile devices. In addition to the client, you must have a copy of the original game on Steam to get some files, install the Xash3D engine, and have an external SD memory card. Now, the steps to follow according to Omarov are the following:

Installation steps

  1. Install the client via an APK file. It is necessary to change the suffix to OMP if the device has a multicore processor, or to NOOMP if the device is single-core or the OMP extension gives you problems.
  2. Install the latest version of Xash3D from here.
  3. Copy the Cstrike and Valve folders from your Counter-Strike 1.6 copy on Steam to the Xash folder on your external SD memory card.
  4. Run the Counter-Strike client.

Graphically the game remains the same as the PC version, although the main problem lies in the device's touch control and the small screen size. Considering that the keyboard and mouse combination is the best control for any FPS, here it can be somewhat complicated to play using the compressed controls on the screen. But don't despair, since you can install a controller via Bluetooth for the controls. Judging by the video showing the game in motion, this adaptation of Counter-Strike on Android is quite acceptable, especially considering that it is an unofficial version, although surely the most avid fans of the series will not hesitate to play a few matches from their mobile while traveling or in the dentist's waiting room.
