d4r describes an unofficial way to run NVIDIA DLSS Super Resolution on AMD Radeon GPUs through Linux and Proton. The project identifies the Radeon RX 7700 XT as its only GPU tested on physical hardware, so its broader targets should not be read as hardware-tested models.
What d4r reports about DLSS on Radeon
The project lists three Super Resolution options: DLSS 3 CNN, DLSS 4 transformer and DLSS 4.5 transformer. It explicitly excludes DLSS 5, which belongs to a separate Neural Rendering effort.
This is a community proof of concept, not an AMD or NVIDIA feature or an officially supported driver option. d4r says it is not affiliated with or endorsed by either company.
How Linux, Proton and ZLUDA fit together
The approach is a stack of components rather than a switch in Radeon’s driver. It combines an OptiScaler integration, a d4r shim, a Wine CUDA bridge, ZLUDA and custom kernels for RDNA 3 and RDNA 4. Linux runs the Windows games through Proton; the project’s release instructions specify GE-Proton 11.
The project also says its setup depends on unreleased ZLUDA and vkd3d-proton patches. That makes d4r an experimental compatibility project, not a ready-to-use option for everyday gaming.
The RX 7700 XT results
For Silent Hill: Townfall at 2560×1440, d4r reports these DLSS results from its September 29, 2026 session on a Radeon RX 7700 XT:
| DLSS version and mode | Reported frame rate |
| DLSS 3 CNN — Quality | 71.7 fps |
| DLSS 3 CNN — Balanced | 80.8 fps |
| DLSS 3 CNN — Performance | 89.7 fps |
| DLSS 4 — Ultra Performance | 95.5 fps |
The project reports 49.1 fps for native 2560×1440 rendering with the game’s TSR at 100% on the same GPU. It also lists FSR 4 results, but those came from a separate session on September 27. d4r says the system ran about 2–4% slower overall during the later DLSS session, so the two sets are not same-session measurements.
What the project has tested
The RX 7700 XT is the only GPU d4r identifies as tested on a physical card. The project describes its work as a proof of concept tried on one physical GPU across a handful of games, and notes that native upscaling can produce visible artifacts in some games. Its listed kernels target RDNA 3 and RDNA 4, but the repository does not identify a physical-hardware test beyond the RX 7700 XT.
