One of the worst things Hollywood ever did was portray sharks as bloodthirsty, vengeful killing machines. In real life, they are magnificent aquatic titans that need to be understood and protected, especially from us. If you love sharks and want to see them up close, you should follow the work of photographer Juan Oliphant, who also leads multiple conservation efforts that extend to all marine life.
From Surfing to Conservation
Juan grew up surfing on the island of Oahu until an accident left him paralyzed, and diving became the key to his full recovery. He was part of Sea Shepherd, had his first close encounter with hammerhead sharks, founded Water Inspired and One Ocean Diving, and from there his art and knowledge about sharks expanded to the entire world.
