These days we are witnessing a kind of revival of classic anime. Sailor Moon Crystal, Saint Seiya - Soul of Gold and Dragon Ball Super are clear examples of this. And by the end of the year comes the return of Digimon with a new movie series titled Digimon Adventure tri.. Are you going to miss it?
The original series
In 1999, the studio Toei Animation released Digimon Adventure, an anime that was labeled as just another Pokémon clone but over time managed to stand out on its own merits and earn its own legion of followers. The story introduces us to a group of children from Japan who, during a summer camp, are transported through a portal to a digital dimension known as Digimundo (Digital World in the original version). There they meet their partners Digimon (short for Digital Monsters), where together they must learn to survive in an unknown world while facing the forces of darkness that want to take over both the Digital World and the real world.
A new movie series
Digimon Adventure was a success and, as expected, was accompanied by a series of movies and even a second season with Digimon Adventure 02 that continued the original story. Over the last decade the franchise had several seasons and movies with new stories and characters, although they didn't achieve the same impact as its predecessor. But to take advantage of the celebration of the fifteenth anniversary of Digimon Adventure, the release of a series of movies is coming with Digimon Adventure tri., a direct sequel to the original anime.
The story takes place six years after the events of Digimon Adventure, where Tai and his friends reunite with their respective Digimon in order to protect the Digital World from evil once again. The soundtrack will include re-recorded themes of classics like "Brave Heart", performed by Ayumi Miyazaki, and "Butter-Fly", performed by Kōji Wada (the latter can be heard in the videos). Digimon Adventure tri. will be divided into six parts, with the first movie titled Saikai (Reunion) to be released on November 21, 2015. Directed at the studio Toei Animation, Digimon Adventure tri. is being directed by Keitaro Motonaga (Persona 3 The Movie: No. 3, Falling Down) with a script by Yuuko Kakihara (Persona 4: The Animation) and designs by Atsuya Uki (Oreimo).
