With the seventh season of Game of Thrones set to premiere this Sunday, fans are eagerly awaiting the return of the epic fantasy series. To help pass the time, there's Doom of Valyria, an animated prequel that offers a captivating look into the world of A Song of Ice and Fire.

A Fan-Made Animated Prequel

Created by animator Patrick McCarthy, this twenty-minute video tells the story of the Valyrian Freehold, the incestuous Targaryen family, and the tragic fall of the noble dragon lords. McCarthy is not affiliated with HBO, Game of Thrones, or any property belonging to George R.R. Martin. His goal is to attract the interest of the cable network to adapt this animated prequel into a live-action series, but for now it's just a provocative project made by passionate fans of the epic material.

“This is essentially a pitch for HBO that we hope produces a live-action spin-off. The real pilot lasts an hour and the scenes are very different, but the characters and the script are the same,” says Patrick in the YouTube description.

Doom of Valyria was produced without funds and is distributed non-profit, solely for exhibition purposes. We recommend watching this animated video before HBO decides to take legal action to take down the project, as is unfortunately typical in such cases.
