What Is Doom II RPG?
Doom II RPG hit the market on four platforms: Java Micro Edition (November 2009), BlackBerry phones (December 2009), and both Windows Mobile and iOS (February 2010). Its development was handled by Fountainhead Studios (which later became id Mobile), and the iPhone edition came with a comic as a bonus.
In general, the game begins with the arrival of the characters (yes, plural) at Tycho station on the Moon. From the start it's evident that the demonic invasion is out of control, and here arises one of the most striking details: We can play with other characters besides the marine.
Sergeant Stan "Cigar" Blazkowicz is accompanied by his superior officer, Major Kira "Maelstrom" Morgan, and a scientist, Doctor Riley O'Connor. Each has their own advantages and weaknesses, reflected in the stats.
How to Play Doom II RPG on Your PC
Very well, that serves as a basic introduction. Now, what do we need to play Doom II RPG on the computer? The original post from GEC Inc. includes the zip file with the port, but not the base game. The file name is "Doom 2 RPG.ipa", and we can find it easily on the Internet Archive. However, we must change its name after downloading (exactly "Doom 2 RPG.ipa" with spaces on both sides of the 2), or else it won't work. The second element is OpenAL, available through its official page.
A double click on the main executable, and Doom II RPG should start without a hitch. Its options menu includes resolution, audio, and controls parameters. Personally, I think the default configuration is very good, but if the plan is to enlarge the window, I recommend 960 x 640, since it doesn't distort the pixels. Logically, the port allows storing any customization and saving our progress.
Doom II RPG is unquestionably a different creature. Its turn-based dynamics couldn't be further from the hyper-speed that Eternal demands, but if you're a fan of old role-playing games and you like the lore of the Doom universe, this deserves your attention.
