Every application these days tries to connect to the internet, from small programs that download updates to entire platforms turned into “services”. Disabling a computer’s connection is easy, but what about when we want to restrict access for a single application? The Firewall Easy tool provides an intuitive and precise control of the Windows firewall, simplifying the whole process to a couple of commands.
Apps that serve ads directly in their interfaces, background operating system updates, drivers, browsers, and even RGB control software. Everything needs to talk to the mothership one way or another. In fact, it’s no exaggeration to say that modern computers behave like “paperweights” if they lack a network connection.
However, there’s always that situation where we want to force a program’s offline behavior and prevent it from exchanging data or looking for updates. Security is the first thing that comes to mind, applying a much stricter manual control… but there are also compatibility and stability issues that can be avoided by blocking the arrival of a new version or a hotfix. How to Block Internet Access for Any Program with Firewall Easy
Firewall Easy has no traditional installer and works from a temporary folder. Its only modification to the operating system is the addition of a context menu command, so if you want to block an executable, just right-click on it and select “Block Internet access”.
There are no limits to the number of programs you can block, and Firewall Easy requires no secondary configuration. Moreover, changes are instant and you don’t have to restart your computer, though you may need to close and reopen the blocked application. The commands available in Firewall Easy’s interface are four: Add and Remove to add or remove blocked programs, Check to verify orphan entries (for example, an uninstalled app), and Firewall, which serves as a shortcut to Windows Firewall.
Finally, Firewall Easy lets you import/export lists of blocked applications and use Drag and Drop, but you’ll first need to load the included .reg file to activate it. Even though there’s no formal uninstallation process, the program includes another .reg file that removes its context menu entry. Firewall Easy is free and open source, with direct download via GitHub. Its last update dates back to May 2022, but it shows no errors and works perfectly on Windows 11. Download below!
