A Drone-Like Flying Motorcycle
Almost all flying motorcycle designs we have seen in the past have relied on a structure with two motors and an aesthetic similar to a traditional motorcycle. The Flike project, on the other hand, is based on a design with three motors and contra-rotating propellers, which makes us think of a kind of giant drone that offers capacity for one passenger. The Flike already has a prototype, and it has performed its first test flights.
It is impossible to forget the chase that Luke and Leia carried out aboard the famous speeder bikes in the forests of Endor. Once again, science fiction feeds our wildest dreams, while real life tries to apply a cold compress to such delusions. However, there are occasions when a cold compress is not enough. Luckily, there is always that project that manages to escape the territory governed by futuristic fantasies, and seeks to bring its magic among us. Unfortunately, the process is not simple. Our readers are likely aware of the accident suffered by the AeroMobile in early May, an event that could delay the appearance of the flying car for decades. The flying motorcycle presents itself as a direct alternative, but like the flying car, it has a long road ahead.
What brings us together here today is the Flike project, developed by Bay Zoltan Nonprofit in Hungary. More than a motorcycle, it may be correct to call the Flike a "flying tricycle" because of its three main motors in a Y6 configuration, using a system of contra-rotating propellers. Its power source is a series of LiPo batteries with an autonomy of between 15 and 20 minutes, or 30-40 minutes if the Flike enters cruise mode. According to the official page, the behavior of the Flike in the air resembles that of a helicopter, while an integrated computer directly controls aspects that help increase its stability.
As we can observe in the second video, the test flight of the Flike was humble, but even among flying motorcycles, none of them achieves extraordinary results on the first try. At this point, we are not surprised that the Flike project is looking for investors. In addition to being difficult, developing a flying vehicle is extremely expensive. Those responsible for the Hoverbike had to enter the drone market to obtain more funds, and I imagine that Flike could do something similar if the money does not appear. It will be a matter of waiting.
