A classic problem among AI image generators is human anatomy. Unless we use a specially optimized model, the most common thing is to find people with three legs, or hands with seven fingers. The new FLUX.1 model from Black Forest Labs has just debuted on the Web, and its results are already putting pressure on Stable Diffusion...
Stable Diffusion 3 Medium debuted in mid-June. Our online tests weren't bad, but judging by the results shared on Reddit, that release left a lot to be desired. Its weak point is, without a doubt, human anatomy. Some users suggest it's a product of censorship, but others attribute it to a general drop in training quality.
In fact, not a few were waiting for a kind of 'replacement', and it seems to have arrived in the form of Black Forest Labs, a company founded by some of the researchers who developed the technology behind Stable Diffusion, and invented the latent diffusion technique. Their model is FLUX.1, available in several versions, and among other things, it promises real human hands, without mutations or extra fingers.
Testing FLUX.1 Online... Before It Blows Up
Black Forest Labs seeks to offer generative solutions in images and video, so FLUX.1 has three versions/editions: 'Pro' is the most powerful, aimed at commercial environments. 'Dev' is the middle ground, with open weights compatible with non-commercial use, and finally 'Schnell' ('fast' in German), designed for local and personal developments. Schnell is already compatible with ComfyUI, and as expected, the Web exploded.
Some online services like Replicate and Fal also work with FLUX.1, but offline execution enthusiasts face a 23-gigabyte Dev model. Of course, that hasn't stopped them, and we've noticed many success cases on 12GB graphics cards (like the RTX 3060). If there isn't enough firepower in our machine, the best option is to roll the dice on HuggingFace, and take advantage of the spaces until the site leaves us in cooldown phase.
