Google has scheduled a change to personal Gemini Apps access beginning October 9, 2026. Under the announced plan, users without an AI subscription would lose access to Gemini Flash and Pro and move to Gemini Flash-Lite instead. The schedule is set out in Google’s Gemini Apps notice.

What changes for personal Gemini accounts

The scheduled change applies to personal accounts using Gemini Apps. Users without a Google AI subscription are expected to keep access to Gemini through Flash-Lite, while Flash and Pro would no longer be available to them in the app.

What the reported change means for Google AI Plus

For Google AI Plus subscribers, the reported change would remove Gemini 3.1 Pro while leaving Flash and Flash-Lite available. Subscribers were to receive an email with their individual effective date.

Gemini Apps and Gemini API are separate

The October notice concerns Gemini Apps on personal accounts. Gemini API is a separate developer service with its own billing documentation, so the app-access schedule does not specify API entitlements.

Gemini’s effort settings

Google was also reported to have announced low, medium, and high effort settings for models available to an account. Higher effort is described as producing more thorough answers while using more of the user’s limit.
