A report published Oct. 8 said implementation of Grok Bot’s external-model routing had begun. Elon Musk had announced the approach on Oct. 7, saying SpaceX would choose the backend model most likely to produce the best result for each task.
Musk’s announcement named Claude Opus 5.5, Midjourney, Suno and other leading APIs as backend options.
How Grok Bot’s model routing is supposed to work
The reported design sends simple requests to smaller, faster models and complex requests to larger ones. Musk did not pair any named service with a specific Grok Bot task.
Services named in the announcement
Claude Opus 5.5, Midjourney and Suno were among the services Musk identified. He also referred to other leading APIs.
