Three Republican chairs of U.S. House committees requested a joint, closed-door briefing with NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang. Their letter, dated November 4, proposes November 18 for the briefing and asks Huang to accept that date or offer an alternative by November 11. The House committee release includes the request and its terms.

The letter gives Huang a choice: accept the proposed date or suggest an alternative session date.

What the committees want to discuss

The letter asks Huang to brief the committees on NVIDIA’s safeguards against foreign-adversary espionage and his interactions with Megaspeed executive Alice Huang. It was signed by Brian Mast, chair of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs; John Moolenaar, chair of the House Select Committee on China; and Rick Crawford, chair of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

The committee release describes Alice Huang as a “publicly reported” intelligence asset of the People’s Republic of China. That is the committees’ characterization of an allegation. The letter’s request concerns Jensen Huang’s interactions with her; it does not accuse him of espionage.

NVIDIA and Jensen Huang’s reported responses

NVIDIA told Axios that customer meetings are part of the CEO’s job and that Jensen Huang speaks with thousands of customer executives each year. The company said regional cloud customers receive ordinary business information, not sensitive NVIDIA trade secrets or information relevant to national security.

Bloomberg reported that Huang had described his dealings with Megaspeed as normal. It also reported that he said NVIDIA had studied and counted the company’s GPU deployments.
