How to Analyze Your WiFi Signal with WinFi Lite

One of the first steps to optimizing your WiFi network's performance is understanding its environment. How many networks are in operation? What channels do they use? What are the potential congestion points? We've previously shown you tricks ranging from a simple password change to extending the signal with a metallic strainer, but today it's the turn of WinFi Lite, a program that will reveal everything you need to know about your WiFi, and your neighbors'.

WiFi networks: an endless love-hate relationship. Most internet providers now deliver modems with built-in WiFi connectivity, which translates into a significant number of networks sharing the same spectrum, leading to more congestion and inferior performance. Sometimes the solution is as simple as changing the channel, but you can't do it blindly. You need essential information about your network, and the networks you "compete" with, so to speak.

WinFi Lite: Analyze Your WiFi Signal

That's where WinFi Lite steps in. This application, developed by Helge Magnus Keck, has just appeared as a beta in the official Microsoft Store. The interface is packed with information, but despite its density, it's very easy to navigate. A click on the Spectrum button will place each network on its respective channel, identifying signal strength. Network Details provides values on the evolution of a specific WiFi network, and Parameters offers a true explosion of data about the modem/router, supported speeds, signal intervals, and much more.

Add to that a comprehensive filter system to limit the results of detected networks (for example, those most likely to affect your router), PCAP and CSV export, and a high level of interface customization, which, by the way, adapts very well even to small screens.

I understand that the official Microsoft Store doesn't have many devotees, but there's nothing to worry about. In the coming days, the developer will release a standalone version with the necessary certification. If you don't want to wait, you can download the build from his personal OneDrive.
