In August of last year, user whatthefilament surprised us with the FrameTablet, a DIY tablet based on Framework hardware. Today, the same user returns with the Framework AIO, turning the hardware of these popular laptops into an all-in-one desktop.

One of the most common mods any user can carry out is converting a laptop into a desktop. Often the mod arises out of necessity: if the laptop screen breaks and it's hard to find a replacement, the headless strategy is always valid. However, Framework is a platform with a completely different level of flexibility.

Thanks to Framework modules, its devices can be upgraded without discarding most of the hardware. But that's not all: with the right resources and a good dose of 3D printing, Framework laptops can become tablets, and even all-in-one computers. User whatthefilament is a true enthusiast of the Framework platform, and after his FrameTablet, it's time for the Framework AIO.

The assembly process was published on Instructables, but if you want the STL files for the case and the rest of the parts, I recommend visiting whatthefilament's profile on GitHub. As a starting point, you'll need 15 screws, 14 M3 threaded inserts (installed with a soldering iron), and 30 magnets of 3 x 6 millimeters.

An important recommendation from whatthefilament is to buy a WiFi antenna from the Framework portal: apparently this antenna is very delicate, and it will most likely break when removed from a working unit. The step-by-step guide is excellent, and beyond the language barrier, it's very easy to follow. Another warning from whatthefilament is not to tighten the speaker screws too much, since their rubber gaskets will handle the vibration.

Yes, the project is far from reasonable in terms of economics, but it demonstrates everything we can do if hardware doesn't have a restrictive design like the one found in most current products.
