Apple’s Create a Pass feature lets you make an Apple Wallet pass from a card photo or screenshot using Apple Intelligence, or create one manually in Wallet. Apple describes it for membership and loyalty cards with a barcode or QR code, such as library and gym cards.
What Create a Pass does in Apple Wallet
A Wallet pass is a digital card you can keep on your iPhone. Apple’s feature offers two ways to make one: use a photo or screenshot, or enter the details yourself. The image-based route is designed for cards with a barcode or QR code.
Once created, a pass can be edited. Apple says you can change its background and color, add or remove fields, and update its details.
Create a pass from a photo or screenshot
The image-based workflow uses Apple Intelligence. Start with a photo or screenshot that contains the card’s barcode or QR code, tap Add to Wallet, then follow the onscreen instructions.
Apple requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or iPhone 16 model or later running iOS 27 or later for this route. Apple Intelligence is not available in every language or region, and usage limits may apply.
Create a pass manually in Wallet
If you want to enter the information yourself, Apple lists this path:
- Open Wallet and tap Add Card.
- Choose Create a Pass, then Create Pass Manually.
- Select a template and enter the pass details.
- Tap Done.
You can edit the pass afterward, including its background, color, fields, and details.
A Wallet pass is not an Apple Pay payment card
Create a Pass makes a pass for information such as membership or loyalty details. Adding a payment card for Apple Pay is a separate setup process, and the card issuer may require approval or verification.
