Recently we talked about QuickSetDNS, a tool developed by Nirsoft to change DNS on our computers and avoid Microsoft's 'official route'. However, there is also DNS Jumper, which besides having a simple and intuitive interface, includes speed tests to choose the fastest DNS server for our connection.
Our Internet connection can be a true jet plane... but its speed is useless if the assigned DNS servers crawl like snails. Changing DNS is one of the most popular tweaks to optimize our sessions on the web, and there are many alternatives that invite exploration. The application DNS Jumper not only simplifies the configuration process, but also allows us to obtain precise speed data on each available DNS server in its list.
DNS Jumper: A Tool to Change DNS and Find the Fastest Option
Its interface is compact and easy to use, but it is divided into four general categories. First, we have a section to choose the network adapter that will receive the changes, which includes potential Bluetooth connections. In the second section, we select the DNS server from a list that we can edit at any time. Third, DNS Jumper enables the possibility of using custom DNS servers, reversing the position between primary or secondary DNS, and measuring their access time. Finally, the left menu presents four buttons to apply the DNS configuration, measure speed, purge the DNS cache (equivalent to the ipconfig /flushdns), and enter the options menu.
The speed test opens a new window, and by clicking Start DNS Test we can check how fast each registered DNS server is. After several attempts, it is evident that Google and Cloudflare have some advantage over the rest, but sometimes the key is not to find a fast DNS, but one that guarantees stability (say, OpenDNS).
