In this article we will show you how to hide programs from the Windows Control Panel so they cannot be uninstalled. This way, if a malicious user tries to remove an important program from your computer, they won't be able to.
Hide Programs also removes the installed program from the Start Menu, making it an even better option.
Once you download the program, you'll notice its simple interface, from which you can hide programs so they cannot be uninstalled. Even though the programs are hidden, you can still access them through shortcuts or their installation location.
We want to point out that hidden programs can still be uninstalled by other methods, such as uninstaller tools or the uninstall option within the program itself. Although this utility gives you more security, it does not offer absolute protection.
Hiding Programs from the Windows Control Panel
In the program interface you'll see three tabs, but for our task we'll focus on the last one, 'Add/Remove Program List's'.
Its interface is very similar to Windows' 'Programs and Features' option, as the programs are listed in the same way.
Once you've marked the program(s), all you have to do is click the 'Hide program' button, then go to 'Uninstall or change a program' in the Windows Control Panel to see that the program is indeed hidden.
Now to hide programs from the Start Menu, you'll need to go to the second tab, 'Start Menu – common programs', and repeat the same process: select the program and click 'Hide program'.
If you want to make a hidden program visible again, just select it and click the 'Show Checked' button.
Although this utility does not provide an infallible defense against malicious uninstallation of a program installed on your computer, it can help protect programs from accidental deletion, errors, or users with limited knowledge of the operating system.
Hide Programs is a free program available for Windows operating systems. The download platform is Download.com, and the author's website is down. However, in our tests and on VirusTotal, we have not found any threats.
