Too low, too high, dead bass and treble, only one channel working… the sound of YouTube videos can be full of problems, and unless the uploader posts a new copy, it's up to us to try to fix them. Luckily, we have several extensions for Chrome and Firefox that, (among other things), let us increase the sound of YouTube videos. There are no magic solutions, but any improvement is welcome.
If a YouTube video sounds bad, users are quick to point it out. Sometimes one of the channels fails, and more than once the compression process causes all sorts of pops and clicks, but we mustn't forget the excessive normalization that leaves videos with sound that is too low. Most likely the original creator notices the problem and uploads a new copy to the service, but many videos stay there, virtually abandoned, with no audio adjustments.

It doesn't matter if we turn the volume control in Windows up to 100, those small speakers simply have no spirit. The ideal solution would be to route the audio through an amplifier… but today we're going to cheat. Sound Enhancement (Chrome)
Besides adding a preamplification control to the browser, Sound Enhancement includes a fairly complete equalizer, a bit like Winamp. You can configure the levels as you like, or enable one of the available presets. With a touch of equalization, the audio might improve much more than you imagine, even without amplifying.
Volume Master (Chrome)
On the other hand, we find Volume Master, which is limited to a single volume control. The difference is that its range extends from 0 to 600 percent. Volume Master detects all tabs playing audio, and its small interface lets us jump to them easily. If you're not interested in using a full equalizer, Volume Master seems like a simpler alternative.
SoundFixer (Firefox)
SoundFixer is the most technical extension of the three. It increases the sound of YouTube videos, but it also includes a control that shifts and balances channels. For example, if the video only has audio on the left channel, slide the Pan option several points to the right to compensate. Some sites ignore SoundFixer, but it works very well on YouTube.
