How to Play Two Simultaneous Subtitles in VLC

Surely more than once you wanted to play more than one subtitle in different languages from your media player, perhaps to learn languages. And you surely haven't found a way to do it. Don't worry anymore! We'll show you a trick so you can play two simultaneous subtitles in your VLC player.

To perform this task, you'll need to download a free VLC extension and a program. Through the extension we'll load the second subtitle, and the program will help refresh and display the subtitle on the video. In this way, the main subtitle will be visible at the bottom of the frame, and the secondary subtitle at the top of the frame.

How to load two simultaneous subtitles in VLC Player?

Step One

First you'll need to have VLC player installed on your computer. Then you'll need to install the extension Subtitler lite mod on your computer. To do that, in the downloaded ZIP file you have to open the folder with the version of your VLC and copy the file “Subtitler (lite) mod.lua” to the clipboard.

Step Two

You have to go to the VLC extensions folder and paste the file.

You can access the extension by clicking on the 'View' tab in VLC. But for this secondary subtitle method to work, you'll have to press the refresh button from the module interface constantly. Otherwise, the additional subtitle won't work.

Step Four

So, to solve this problem, we'll run the portable program Kee Presser. The platform will press the button constantly so the secondary subtitle works. In its first dropdown, you have to select “Subtitler lite mod”. And in “time interval” set a value of 100. This means the program will press the “Enter” key on your computer every 100 ms.

Step Five

Now you open VLC player, add a video, and from VLC's built-in function you add the main subtitle.

Step Six

At this point, you'll add the secondary subtitle (only accepts SRT) in the same location where you have the video stored. But here you have to rename the secondary subtitle with the same name as the video. For example: if the video file is named “Rope”, the subtitle name has to be also “Rope” (only change the file extension).

Step Seven

From the 'View' menu in VLC you select the extension 'Subtitler lite mod'. The add-on will open a window with the 'Refresh' button. You don't need to press the button since Kee Presser will do it for you.

You're done. At the bottom you'll see the primary subtitles and at the top you'll see the secondary subtitles.
