We all want our computers to fly, but stability is always a priority, and if you suspect something isn't working right, you should run some stress tests. Several free tools are ideal for these situations, and today we'd like to add RAM & SSD Diagnostic, an app that can test RAM and SSD at the same time, quickly and consistently.
In general, if there's any problem with a computer's RAM, we won't take long to find out. Blue screens, unexpected resets, graphic errors... the list of symptoms is very long. Fortunately, we have resources at our disposal that can help us detect and isolate those faults. Previously we mentioned HCI MemTest, a good option for test RAM from Windows, but today we want to add RAM & SSD Diagnostic, from the same creator of Size4KWrite. What's its goal? Test RAM and SSD at the same time.
RAM & SSD Diagnostic: Application to test RAM and SSD
The program allows us to define three parameters: the amount of RAM to test, the number of loops, and the fill code for the test pattern. There is a fourth value that disables SSD verification and limits all tests to RAM, but the real value of the app is in the "combo". Basically, what RAM & SSD Diagnostic does is fill the allocated memory, dump that content to a file on the SSD, and transfer the data back to RAM to compare. If everything goes well, the Verify OK box will light up green.
One of the most important details of RAM & SSD Diagnostic is its speed. Even when working with files of several gigabytes, each cycle takes a few seconds. On the other hand, we've noticed that the program doesn't let us choose the SSD. If you want to evaluate a specific drive, you'll need to place a copy of RAM & SSD Diagnostic on it manually. Other than that, everything works very well, and it definitely deserves a place on any maintenance USB stick.
