The iPhone 16 family was released to the public last Friday, and while its reception has been somewhat tepid so far, it received some very interesting technical changes inside. One of them is the “electric adhesive” applied to the battery. On most smartphones, users have to wrestle with small strips that often tear when pulled, but with this new technology, all you need is a bit of electricity…
Another year, another iPhone. The cadence remains intact in Cupertino, an aspect many users appreciate… but something happened with the iPhone 16. The Verge called it “one of the most incomplete products” from Apple so far, because most of its features will be available in the near future through updates, led by Apple Intelligence.
It's most likely that the phone will reach its full potential before the end of the year, though we can already enjoy many resources today, starting with a new physical camera button and a more precise tone control. Now, what about the iPhone 16's interior? Both iFixit and Hugh Jeffreys have published their videos, and we found some surprises.
iPhone 16: Electric adhesive, and dynamic part pairing
On one hand, we have the battery adhesive that releases with electricity. How exactly does it work? Inside the battery there's a “U” shaped strip that appears to be made of aluminum. Its only access point is a small tab, and there we must connect the “positive,” while the “negative” goes to the phone's chassis, on one of the screws of the USB port. Apple indicates the recommended maximum is 30 volts, but 9-12V release the battery in less than three minutes, almost without friction. In fact, iFixit turned the device over, and the battery fell out by itself, with no residue, no plastic levers, and no extra effort. If we reverse the polarity, the aluminum strip will remain in the chassis.
On the other hand, Hugh carried out his classic swap test, and the good news is that pairing a new screen or a Face ID module is a matter of a couple of taps… as long as it's an original/legitimate Apple part. The bad news is that the rest of the warnings haven't gone anywhere, and now two additional elements are added: the chassis (through the new button), and the rear panel (the wireless charging coil has a chip). Basically, what Cupertino seeks is that we don't leave their sandbox. Is it ideal? No… but I admit the situation has improved.
