As of October 30, 2026, Snap Inc. is the sole defendant remaining in the Los Angeles trial over alleged social-media harms to teenagers. Reports published that day said Meta had settled with both plaintiffs, S.J. and K.D.B. The claims against Snap remain allegations, not a finding of liability.

How the defendant lineup changed

Jury selection began on October 28. Meta had settled with S.J. before jury selection, and the court was reportedly informed of its settlement with K.D.B. on October 29. TikTok and YouTube had also settled with both plaintiffs before trial. Opening statements were scheduled for November 4 in reports current through October 30.

The case, Social Media Cases, JCCP 5255, is before Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Carolyn B. Kuhl. No verdict had been reached as of October 30.

The claims and the scope of the case

S.J. and K.D.B. allege that platform design features, including autoplay and infinite scroll, encouraged compulsive use and contributed to mental-health or related harms. Snap has disputed the plaintiffs’ account of their Snapchat experiences and how its platform was designed.

This is an individual bellwether involving the claims of S.J. and K.D.B. It is not a class settlement, general payment fund or claim-form program for other users; any outcome in this proceeding concerns the named plaintiffs’ claims.
