Mirror's Edge Catalyst: The Origin of Faith
Mirror's Edge Catalyst

Who would have imagined that Mirror’s Edge would get a reboot? During Electronic Arts’ press conference at E3 2015, a new trailer for Mirror's Edge Catalyst, which tells the origin of its protagonist, Faith, was presented. Are you going to miss it?

The Original Mirror’s Edge

Launched in 2008 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and later adapted for Windows and mobile devices, Mirror’s Edge introduced us to a dystopian future where a network of runners act as messengers to transmit messages while evading government surveillance. One of these messengers is Faith, the protagonist we control from a first-person perspective to move through a city—jumping between rooftops, running along walls, and entering buildings through ventilation ducts. All of this using parkour techniques and movements that shaped the gameplay, making the title a unique experience at the time.

A Surprising Reboot

Many were surprised when Electronic Arts announced that a sequel was in development during E3 2013. Finally, to everyone’s surprise, Electronic Arts presented the long-awaited Mirror’s Edge Catalyst during its conference at E3 2015. To begin with, Catalyst is a reboot of Mirror’s Edge that revolves around Faith’s past. The gameplay will still be from a first-person perspective, with more fluid movements and melee combat, expanding the entire experience of the original game.

In Mirror’s Edge Catalyst there will be no levels, but a huge city to explore freely. What secrets can be found atop a skyscraper or in the abandoned tunnels beneath the city? Now you can discover them using Faith’s parkour moves along with a new series of devices.

The game will be available early next year for the current generation of consoles and PC, but to ease the wait, in September of this year Mirror’s Edge: Exordium will be released, a prequel comic published by Dark Horse Comics. Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is being developed by EA Digital Illusions CE and will be available on Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One starting February 16, 2016.
