Mobile games of the week (06/05/15)

Buckle up because we're starting to play with one of the best racing games, Asphalt Overdrive. Also: Doodle Jump, a classic from another time, and Where's My Water 2?, with crocodiles and puzzles. The best games for the device you take everywhere.

Asphalt Overdrive (Free game)

The first spin-off of the Asphalt series marks a departure from previous games, as it's an endless runner in the vein of Temple Run and Subway Surfers but with race cars. Asphalt Overdrive takes place in a version of the '80s in Southern California and is the first game not to offer a traditional career mode. The rest of the gameplay stays largely unchanged; cars accelerate automatically, and performing stunts and ramming vehicles fills the nitro meter, which you can use to escape from the police. The game features thirty cars, many of which you'll have to unlock by beating various opponents in races. Developed by Gameloft, Asphalt Overdrive is available on iOS, Android, and Windows Phone.

Carcassonne

Based on the German-style board game, Carcassonne is set in a medieval world where the goal is to create a game map where players compete to see who scores the most points by taking possession of different locations (cities, roads, fields, etc.). Although this title is handled by two different studios, both versions have the same game mechanics and a wide variety of expansions to keep the fun going. The game includes matches against the computer, ideal for practicing, and online multiplayer (with leaderboards) or local play via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Carcassonne is available on iOS (developed by TheCodingMonkeys), Android, and Windows Phone (both versions developed by Exozet Games).

Doodle Jump

The goal in this game is to guide a four-legged animal named Doodler through an endless series of platforms without falling. As you climb, you can get a brief boost by using various objects, such as jetpacks, rockets, trampolines, and shields of invulnerability (only in some levels). There are also monsters and UFOs that you must avoid or eliminate, either by shooting them or jumping on them. The most interesting thing about Doodle Jump is that you can change the look of the game with Christmas themes, Halloween night, ninjas, and many more, so things don't get monotonous. Developed by Lima Sky, Doodle Jump is available on iOS, Android (free version), BlackBerry, and Windows Phone (free version).

Where's My Water 2? (Free game)

The sequel to Where's My Water? returns with more puzzles for this crazy family of reptiles. Where's My Water 2? features more than a hundred levels and challenges, like the new Duck Rush mode where you have to dig as fast as you can to guide the water to the bottom. In addition to the sewers, you can enjoy two new settings: the soap factory and the beach. The best part is that you can replay levels you've won with new challenges, increasing the replayability of this entertaining title. Developed by Disney, Where's My Water 2 is available on iOS, Android, and Windows Phone.
