With a fairy tale theme (and famous story heroes), you must traverse a series of levels chasing a mischievous animal. The twist is that to survive, you need to create spells, weapons, and other items from materials you find as you explore the environments. Glitchskier
Glitchskier: In the days of floppy disks, games were sometimes built from symbols on the screen that represented game elements. Glitchskier is a shoot-'em-up that almost perfectly captures that retro ASCII feeling with a user interface inspired by the old MS-DOS operating system, complete with scan lines on CRT monitors and screen flicker. The game itself seems fairly basic at first glance, but the bosses and collectible items in glitch-filled screens mean you'll come back to see what other secrets you can find and shoot for a new high score. PinOut
The developer of Smash Hit, Mediocre AB, presents PinOut, an addictive pinball game with a twist. You have to keep moving the ball up an endless maze, collecting time as you go to give yourself enough to get past the hardest levels. Here you're basically up against yourself in a highly replayable battle to improve your time and perfect every stage, all accompanied by magnificent neon (and with minigames you can play during precious bonus seconds). Slayaway Camp
This game is essentially a Sokoban-style puzzle. Unlike Quell, where you collect golden balls, in Slayaway Camp, you're the villain in a series of slasher films, and you have to knock off (and kill) every teenage counselor at a summer camp. Some levels have limits or special features (like fires) to help you dispatch victims (and provide the risks you need to avoid them), and you can even earn coins to unlock special kills. For a bloodthirsty premise, this title is an absolute joy. Developed by Blue Wizard Digital, Slayaway Camp is available on iOS and Android.
Submerged
The fourth game from Uppercut Games, creators of EPOCH, marks a big departure from the futuristic post-apocalyptic shooter. Originally released for Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 in 2015, Submerged, follows the adventures of a young teenager, Miku, searching a deserted, flooded city for resources to help her wounded brother. While there are some puzzle elements, overall it's a peaceful exploration experience that lets you take your time and unravel both Miku's story and that of the mysterious city. Developed by Uppercut Games, Submerged is available exclusively on iOS.
