More than 100 people gathered at Plaza de Navarra in Huesca on November 6, 2026, to protest planned Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centers, Heraldo de Aragón reported. The organizers said they were concerned about the facilities’ expected water and electricity use and a lack of project information.
Who organized the Huesca protest
No es Sequía, es Saqueo, Ecologistas en Acción, and the Plataforma de Afectados por el Centro de Datos de Cuarte called the gathering. Heraldo de Aragón also reported that protesters criticized the Government of Aragón, regional president Jorge Azcón, and Huesca mayor Lorena Orduna.
The protest is part of wider debate over AWS projects in Aragón. NeoTeo previously covered the separate dispute over AWS’s IAE tax payments in Aragón.
The Huesca protest concerned planned facilities; the 68-million-liter figure covers three existing AWS data centers in Aragón.
What Aragón’s water figures cover
NPR reporting published by New England Public Media said three existing AWS data centers in Aragón used 68 million liters of water, 48% more than AWS had initially told regional officials they would need. The report described those centers as much smaller than planned facilities.
AWS told NPR that its Aragón data centers would use water for cooling only when temperatures exceeded 30°C (86°F). The company also said its policy was not to publish water use for individual sites.
