Although we at Neoteo don't have a cure for your loneliness or sleep deprivation, we've found a Google Chrome extension called Netflix Party that lets you create a remote get-together with friends to watch Netflix.
You can share your favorite series even if you're alone in your living room! The platform syncs video playback and adds a chat room where you can comment on what you're watching in real time.
Netflix Party: Netflix remotely with friends
First, everyone in the group must be watching Netflix from Google Chrome. Then you'll need to download the extension. After that, the administrator goes to the Netflix website and starts playing the content you're going to share (movie, series, documentary, etc.).
- Click the “NP” icon in the top right corner of Chrome.
- Decide whether you want to control playback as Administrator or have group control.
- When Netflix Party starts, the extension generates a URL link.
- Share that URL with your friends to invite them to the remote viewing party.
- Your friends click the link, and when Netflix Party opens, each of them must click the “NP” icon. And that's it!
How to communicate with friends while watching Netflix remotely?
Netflix Party automatically activates a chat room that takes up a third of the video screen, allowing you to communicate with your friends while everyone watches Netflix. From the settings, you can customize two chat options: hide or show the chat room, and enable an alert every time there's a new chat message. Of course, all your friends need their own Netflix subscription for it to work.
With Netflix Party, you can share and talk about the series, movie, or documentary you're watching with friends, even if you're not in the same physical space.
