OpenAI’s ChatGPT Dots update lets you create and personalize a Dot in the mobile app, then use it to start Codex work, follow existing threads and edit ChatGPT Work automations. Access is rolling out gradually, and the eligible plans depend on your age and region.
Create and personalize a Dot on your phone
Use the latest version of the ChatGPT mobile app and follow the in-app setup. OpenAI’s Dots guide says mobile web does not support creating or talking to a Dot. In its walkthrough, OpenAI shows the setup beginning at a “meet dot” entry in the app, followed by naming the Dot and customizing its avatar.
You can also connect plugins from the mobile app. Each one must be connected and permitted for the action you want. OpenAI says the update also brings faster cloud browsing and sidebar loading, fewer pauses before replies, smoother transcript scrolling and a way to retry failed activity. It also reports fixing approval buttons that could be hidden by oversized Gmail previews. The release note describes these mobile and product changes.
Start Codex work or edit Work automations
A Dot can start work in Codex, follow up on existing threads and search ChatGPT conversations. It can also read and edit ChatGPT Work automations, including recurring tasks. OpenAI says Dots can use relevant context from existing Codex threads and automations, helping you continue work without starting from scratch each time. These capabilities are described in OpenAI’s release note.
Who can access Dots in the US?
OpenAI lists Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500 for users over 18 outside the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom and Switzerland. The US is outside those named exclusions. Business Premium and Enterprise are listed for worldwide rollout; Enterprise Dots are off by default and require a workspace administrator to enable them. OpenAI says rollout is gradual, so meeting the listed conditions does not guarantee that Dots have reached a particular account. Its current access guidance names these plans and conditions.
Chat limits, task limits and approvals
Conversations with a Dot do not count toward ChatGPT usage limits. Tasks the Dot starts or manages in Codex or Work count toward those products’ limits, so chat and delegated work are treated separately. OpenAI’s access guidance sets out that distinction.
Connected-app actions remain subject to existing ChatGPT permissions and automatic approval checks. Depending on the action, the Dot may proceed, ask you to approve it or hand the step back to you. Connecting a messaging channel does not itself grant access to other apps or to a computer, according to OpenAI’s Dots guide.
