OpenAI announced on October 21, 2026, that ChatGPT Ads would expand to 26 more countries, bringing the company’s stated total to 89. OpenAI also reported that more than 100,000 advertisers had run campaigns in ChatGPT.

The company said the expansion added 14 countries in Latin America, naming Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Peru among them. It also named Nigeria, South Africa, Serbia, Ukraine, Cambodia, Bangladesh and Pakistan. OpenAI reported more than 1.2 billion weekly ChatGPT users, a figure for the product’s overall audience rather than ad reach.

The U.S. pilot began in February

OpenAI said it began testing ChatGPT Ads with a U.S. pilot in February 2026. That earlier test puts the October announcement in context: the U.S. pilot predated the expansion announcement by several months.

Which ChatGPT plans can show ads?

OpenAI says ads can appear on Free and Go plans. Plus, Pro and Enterprise remain ad-free. The company says advertising helps support free and lower-cost access to ChatGPT.

For advertisers in newly added markets, OpenAI says access is available through technology partners or its Ads Manager. OpenAI also says ads are labeled and separate from ChatGPT’s answers, advertising does not influence those answers, conversations stay private from advertisers, and it does not sell customer data.

What earlier reporting said about OpenAI’s ad business

An English-language discussion with The Information’s Alix Coutures, published October 19, 2026

In a video published October 19, The Information’s digital advertising reporter Alix Coutures said OpenAI’s ad business had reached a $1 billion revenue run rate in late August. A run rate annualizes the pace of revenue at a given time; it is different from revenue reported for a full year. Coutures also said OpenAI had recruited more than 60,000 advertisers and described mixed advertiser feedback, including concerns that the platform’s targeting was not working well.
