Some months ago we talked about Opera One, Opera's new vision in browsers that uses the concept of islands to manage tabs and includes access to chatbots. After a relatively short testing period, Opera announced the launch of the stable version of One, and its most important change is the integration of Aria, a chatbot based on OpenAI technology.
The relationship between browsers and artificial intelligence is increasingly close. Microsoft already announced the launch of a Copilot compatible with Windows 11, Edge and Office 365, Brave offers a Summarizer to improve our searches, and there's also Opera with its new One browser. In addition to incorporating background optimizations such as a multithreading compositor, One reduces the distance between users and chatbots with the help of Aria, which uses OpenAI technology.
Installing the New Stable Opera One
After specifying permissions for data collection (in essence, we deactivated everything), Opera One allows us to customize the browser's appearance during installation, choosing theme, wallpaper for the start page, and the icons present in the sidebar. The shortcuts to ChatGPT and ChatSonic that we found in the development build did not disappear completely, but they come disabled by default.
As we mentioned above, Aria is a product of the agreement between OpenAI and Opera. On the surface it seems like a rebranding of ChatGPT, but the biggest difference is that Aria can read certain information in real time. When asking details like the current date or the time in Jakarta, Aria responded positively.
It also got right the latest champions of the main European football leagues, however, when requesting data about the three central tournaments (Champions, Europa League and Conference), Aria fell into a delusional spiral, and several exchanges were needed to make it escape. As for the rest of the browser, it's not hard to discover the spirit of Chromium in the background. The flags section works perfectly, as does the shortcut to check the status of hardware acceleration. Opera One can download extensions from the Chrome store without issues, and the selection of addons on Opera's site remains interesting. Is Opera One as revolutionary as the company promises?
