We all know bookmarks are a great resource, but only if you can actually reach them easily. The classic bookmark bar isn’t exactly the most comfortable way, and some speed dial variants end up causing more problems than they solve. The Perfect Home extension reinterprets the speed dial by modifying the 'new tab' page, where you’ll be able to manage bookmarks in your browser, edit links, set up drawers, and more.

The concept of “favorget” (favorite and forget) exists for several reasons. One of the most important is that classic systems for managing bookmarks are not comfortable or efficient. Personally, every time I go into the bookmarks section, the browser throws an endless list of links, and in many cases I don’t even remember how they got there.

The speed dial emerged as an alternative to the bookmark bar. However, in some browsers they seem to have a life of their own, and the links change depending on our history. That leads us to Perfect Home, a Chrome and Firefox compatible extension that lets you manage bookmarks in your browser more precisely.

Basic Perfect Home setup: Your bookmarks, turned into a speed dial

In essence, Perfect Home optimizes the classic bar by putting all our bookmarks on the “new tab” page. The bookmarks section in the browser will remain your main resource for preparing the structure and creating new subfolders that identify different categories, but Perfect Home turns all that into a speed dial, simplifying access.

In this example we see a change in appearance, with the “Tecno” folder working as a drawer

Now, using multiple folders to save bookmarks makes Perfect Home lose its purpose, because the speed dial ends up becoming a browser. A much more useful option is to configure the content of the bookmark bar as “main folder”, and turn the folders you consider most important into “docked folders” or drawers.

I recommend changing its basic colors

Perfect Home has a wide customization profile, allowing you to install themes or change the basic appearance. We definitely recommend this last step, since it uses fonts that are too faint on dark backgrounds. The extension can also fetch favicons from Google or themes via GitHub, but this doesn’t work very well in its Chrome version (recently launched), and support seems more complete in its Firefox edition. Anyway, download a copy and give it a try. You might find that bookmarks are much more useful this way.
