On November 5, 2026, Postman staff member Preetham said the company would redesign its coding-agent integration process for more user control and revert the change in the meantime. The statement followed a report that Postman Desktop had installed agent plugins on one Mac; it did not establish that the reversion was complete. Preetham’s response
What the Mac user reported
A user identified as Elad, posting as indicava, filed a GitHub issue on October 25 with logs from a Mac running Postman Desktop 12.33.4. The logs recorded automatic installation of a Claude Code plugin, version 2.0.1, and a Codex plugin, version 1.1.0. The report also listed a Postman CLI on the machine and a Codex connection to Postman’s MCP server that failed with an authentication error. The issue and its local configuration excerpts
The Codex setup included an enabled plugin and a startup hook. That hook directs the agent to load Postman’s postman:api-engineer skill before non-trivial API engineering tasks. Postman’s pinned plugin source also contains an approvePostmanHook routine; the routine does not identify who created the trust record in the reporter’s local configuration. Preetham said Postman had intended to make setup easier for developers connecting coding agents to API work. In response to feedback, the company said it would redesign the experience and revert the change. That describes Postman’s stated plan, not a completed removal of plugins already on a user’s machine.
What one small Claude Code test found
A Reddit user tested Claude Code 2.1.318 with the Postman plugin 2.0.1 across four API tasks, without signing in to Postman. The skill loaded first in two tasks; the agent used plain files and did not send work to Postman. The user estimated about 2,400 additional tokens at session start. The author cautioned that four tasks do not establish a general rate and that the test did not cover a signed-in setup. The user’s test account
How to check for the Postman plugin
If you want to inspect your setup, run Postman’s plugin utility with Node.js installed:
npx @postman/postman-plugin statuslists detected integrations.npx @postman/postman-plugin removeremoves the plugin.
Postman’s documentation for installing its plugin into detected agents describes the detected-agent setup. Because the original report involved separate Claude Code and Codex configuration changes, check the agents you use rather than relying on a change to Postman Desktop alone.
Check the agent’s own configuration when you want to know whether its Postman integration is present.
