Starbreeze Studios, known for The Chronicles of Riddick and the Syndicate reboot, has just announced Project StarVR, a virtual reality headset that promises a better gaming experience.

Starbreeze Studios is a video game developer based in Stockholm, Sweden. Founded in 1998 as O3 Games, it was renamed Starbreeze Studios in 2002. Among its most notable titles are the two games in The Chronicles of Riddick series, the Syndicate reboot, and the fantastic Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. On the occasion of E3 2015, Starbreeze Studios has announced Project StarVR, a virtual reality headset currently in development by InfinitEye.

Inside the StarVR headset

InfinitEye is a French company dedicated to VR hardware engineering and development. Recently acquired by Starbreeze, which presented the headset featuring two 14-centimeter LCD screens, offering a horizontal field of view of 210 degrees, wider than any other known field of view so far. The project highlights Starbreeze as the first to develop both hardware and software for a better virtual reality experience. Open source is another key feature of the device, thanks to Valhalla, the owners of the technology.

With this in mind, Starbreeze aims to become one of the first distributors in the entertainment industry by bringing VR games to the Steam platform. Speaking of games, Starbreeze Studios announced it will showcase its StarVR with Overkill's The Walking Dead and Payday 2: Crimewave Edition during its conference tomorrow at E3 2015, where more details will be offered about both the headset and the games. So we’ll have to wait to see what they have in store.
