The Keeper, or How to Survive an Axe Blow at a Time
The Keeper

The so-called "survival games" have a special spark. They push and challenge us differently. Titles like Don't Starve and RimWorld have stolen months of our lives, and we must tread carefully not to fall into temptation, but something tells me there will be no escape with The Keeper. The game just got approved on Steam Greenlight, and its trailer looks pretty good…

The idea of surviving inside a game might seem too obvious, but if that game shows no mercy, we'll come back for more. In the introduction, I mentioned Don't Starve and RimWorld, two titles that will keep any player busy for a long time, and I've also been suggested things like Terraria and Starbound, which I still have to try (one of the first things I lost with adulthood is time to play). With so many good quality games on the market, it's hard to present a new project that is innovative and original in its own way. One possible path is to not overcomplicate things. An unexpected hero, a relentless villain, and a secret they both fight for. That brings us to The Keeper.

The Story of The Keeper

The hero is a farmer who, despite his years, hasn't lost any skill in fighting and living off nature. For reasons that, for now, I don't know, this farmer defends an old tower, which holds a mysterious power inside. The one who desires that power is the Devourer of Sins, a creature that commands all kinds of monsters, but the farmer is an obstacle. The Keeper gives us control of the farmer, and our mission is to explore, hunt, fish, and kill every creature that gets in the way. In its trailer, The Keeper shows what seems to be an advanced dodge and block system, which will allow us to respond with destructive combos.

Release and Platforms

The game has already received approval from users on Steam through the Greenlight program, and as we've been able to verify, the Brazilian studio Ludic Studio will release The Keeper in versions compatible with Windows, Linux, and Mac. Obviously, its "greenlit" status doesn't guarantee anything regarding release dates, and we estimate it will see the light first as "Early Access". In the past I've expressed my rejection of that mechanism, however, I think I'm going to keep a close eye on The Keeper for a while.
