A Qualcomm spokesperson reportedly called the claim that Qualcomm had licensed patents behind Huawei’s LogicFolding chipmaking technique inaccurate on October 6. The response came a day after Huawei and Qualcomm announced a broader patent agreement.

What the Huawei–Qualcomm agreement covers

Announced on October 5, the multi-year agreement provides for cross-licenses covering the companies’ patent portfolios in 5G, computing, AI and networking. A cross-license lets each company license patents from the other in those fields. The deal also provides for Qualcomm to purchase certain Huawei U.S. patents in computing, AI, networking and other technologies. Closing was subject to necessary regulatory approvals.

NeoTeo covered the broader Huawei–Qualcomm patent agreement when the companies announced it.

The LogicFolding claim

The reported response addressed the specific claim about a LogicFolding-related license; it did not describe a change to the broader agreement’s announced terms. Huawei’s announcement set out the cross-license fields and the planned patent purchase as parts of that agreement.
