On May 18, 2010, Red Dead Redemption launched for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Thirteen years later (on August 17, I might add), the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch editions arrived, drawing plenty of criticism from fans. Why? Because that "other" version is still missing. The one everyone is waiting for, remastered, with 4K support and a framerate through the roof. Obviously, I'm talking about Red Dead Redemption for PC. Is there any hope? It's hard to understand the absence of certain games on PC. A developer can cite dozens of reasons to avoid that platform, but there are cases where its unavailability makes no sense at all. One of the most cited examples is Bloodborne: after almost ten years, that game remains a PlayStation 4 exclusive, an incomprehensible decision considering that the three Souls games are already on PC, and Elden Ring swept everything in its path.
The other case to highlight is, of course, Red Dead Redemption. Declared "Game of the Year 2010" on several occasions, a fascinating story of violence and redemption… but a PC version, never. While Rockstar tends to delay ports for its main titles, it's hard to understand that Red Dead Redemption 2 (technically a prequel) is available on PC, and the same doesn't happen with the earlier game. The PlayStation Store talks about Red Dead Redemption for PC
Obviously, the message was edited faster than lightning, but archived copies didn't take long to appear. The description leaves no room for error: "Now on PC for the first time". Further down, it mentions that this version will include the GOTY edition content, all the improvements from the 2023 edition, and additional optimizations in terms of resolution, framerate, multiple displays, and spatial surround sound.
Now, nobody understands the reasons for publishing the description of a PC game on the PlayStation Store; however, this wouldn't be the first leak of its kind. Three months ago, data miners analyzed the Rockstar launcher and discovered a very similar text. I hope these isolated details turn into a real release. John Marston's adventure deserves a place on our computers.
By the way, Valve could also release a Half-Life 3 trailer before the end of the year. Dreaming costs nothing…
