TechCrunch reported that the watchOS 27.3 developer beta containing Live Rewind and Siri Recap rolled out in the United States. The features are for Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, and they handle conversation text in different ways. Apple announced the watchOS 27.3 and iOS 27.3 developer betas on November 3, 2026; its developer notice confirms the operating-system betas, while the feature-specific rollout was reported by TechCrunch.
Live Rewind and Siri Recap do different jobs
Live Rewind shows text from the previous 15 seconds of speech after you deliberately double-press the Digital Crown. It is a snippet, not audio playback. Apple says it does not keep transcribing in the background. If you do not save the text or use it with Ask Siri, it disappears about 30 seconds after the watch display dims.
Siri Recap creates a high-level conversation summary rather than a full transcript, and it does not identify speakers. You have to enable it; Apple says you can control it manually or set a schedule by time or location. Unsaved summaries are deleted after seven days.
What Apple says about processing and requirements
Apple says Audio Intelligence does not create or store audio recordings. Its published description gives the two conversation features different processing paths: Live Rewind speech recognition is processed on the watch and paired iPhone. For Siri Recap, encrypted audio goes to the paired iPhone’s Secure Exclave for transcription and condensation; encrypted condensed text then goes to Private Cloud Compute to generate the summary. Apple’s Audio Intelligence support page describes that design and the feature controls.

Apple lists Apple Watch Series 12 or Apple Watch Ultra 4, Apple Intelligence, Siri AI (Beta), and an eligible iPhone. Its iPhone list includes iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max; iPhone 17, 17e, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max; iPhone Air; iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max; and iPhone Duo. iPhone 16e is not on the list. English is the initial language. Users under 13 are ineligible; for users under 18 on a Child Account, a parent or guardian must enable access.
What an early beta test found
Victoria Song, a reviewer at The Verge, described trying Live Rewind in a quiet home office with her spouse. In later tests, she encountered a word or two that the feature misheard. A short conversation did not produce a Siri Recap, and the first recap she got from an editorial-planning meeting left out enough context to limit its usefulness for her work. Those are observations from her early beta use, not a general measure of accuracy.
