Setting up a server can be expensive or too complicated? SanDisk offers an alternative with its new Connect Wireless Stick. At first glance it looks like any other high-capacity USB drive, but the difference is that we can access its content without having to connect it to a USB port, making it an ideal solution for smartphones and tablets.
The market offers all kinds of external hard drives with wireless support, while an old computer can always assume the role of a server. The problem is that these solutions do not adapt to all users. Due to cost or technical complexity, installing a server is not entirely simple, and when it comes to accessing its content, we must also consider the presence of mobile devices. If the user's demands are very high, they should undoubtedly make the effort and install a traditional server, but if the idea is lighter use, such as access to multimedia files and the daily dose of streaming, there is something else to explore.
This is the SanDisk Connect Wireless Stick. Its exterior is on par with any USB drive, and the available capacity ranges from 16 to 128 gigabytes (decimal). The interface is USB 2.0, a decision perhaps questionable with the advance of USB 3.0 and the new Type-C connector, but SanDisk not only guarantees greater compatibility this way, but the strong point of the Connect Wireless Stick is its WiFi n connectivity (2.4 GHz). Basically, what the device does is imitate a router, creating a wireless network to which all nearby devices can connect. As expected, wireless mode allows both reading and writing files, and its independent operation depends on an internal battery, which recharges on any USB port within two hours.
According to SanDisk representatives, the Connect Wireless Stick offers streaming 1080p for four and a half hours before exhausting its battery, and sends three simultaneous streams, while the maximum number of devices that can connect to the drive is five. The Connect Wireless Stick is not the first product of its kind under the SanDisk name, but it definitely has a more attractive price, located between 30 and 100 dollars, depending on capacity.
