We are still processing the official announcement of the PlayStation 5 Pro, but Sony decided we don't deserve any rest. In fact, the PlayStation family of consoles will turn 30 years old next December 3, and to celebrate, the Japanese giant will seek our money with special "30th Anniversary" editions of the PS5 Pro, the digital PS5, two gamepads, and the PlayStation Portal.

On December 3, 1994, the original PlayStation debuted in the Japanese market, and the console world never was the same again. With more than 100 million units sold, its success was only surpassed by the PlayStation 2, which hit shelves in March 2000. Since that initial model, PlayStation's numbers have been overwhelming, winning the symbolic console war in every generation. Without going too far, two PlayStation 5s are being sold for every Xbox (combining both models), and the gap between the two platforms continues to widen.

Their story continues with the announcement of the PlayStation 5 Pro, an update that has a shocking price... and that will probably sell well anyway. However, Sony has an extra ace up its sleeve: appeal to nostalgia, launching special "30th Anniversary" editions of the PlayStation 5 Pro and the digital edition of the PlayStation 5..

PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection

I won't deny it: The gray tones combined with the classic multicolor PlayStation logo are brilliant. I'd even dare say that with this design, the PlayStation 5 finally looks like a console, and not like an air freshener or a giant router.

The main contents of the 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro bundle

For the PlayStation 5 Pro bundle, Sony includes:

  • Console with 2TB storage
  • Two gamepads (DualSense wireless controller and DualSense Edge wireless controller)
  • DualSense charging station
  • A cover for the optical drive (sold separately)
  • Vertical installation stand
  • A gamepad shell and its cable
  • Four cable organizers with PlayStation symbols
  • A sticker
  • A poster (30 different designs)
  • A clip

The standard digital PlayStation 5 edition removes the DualSense Edge from the bundle, and the console's storage drops to 1TB, but keeps everything else.

... impossible to deny: The Edge gamepad looks fantastic

Of course, those not interested in the full console can purchase a PlayStation Portal and the gamepads separately. Sony warns that only 12,300 PlayStation 5 Pro consoles will be sold (12-3, December 3, the date of the original launch), and each will have a serial number engraved. Preorders will begin on September 26 in regions with access to direct.playstation.com.

Prices? A mystery. We're not surprised.
