During San Diego Comic-Con, a new series was announced to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Stargate franchise. It will focus on Catherine Langford and be a prequel to the original movie and the TV series. Check out the behind-the-scenes of the new web series Stargate Origins.
At San Diego Comic-Con, MGM announced that it would launch a new Stargate streaming service called Stargate Command, and that it would create an original series for the service to celebrate the franchise's twentieth anniversary. At the recent Stan Lee's L.A. Comic Con, the studio presented a teaser for Stargate Origins, which is essentially a behind-the-scenes look with interviews with the cast and crew and tours of the sets. This new web series will focus on Catherine Langford and will be a prequel to the original movie and the TV series.
This two-minute video shows the first week of production of Stargate Origins, with a small tent and offices for a young Catherine Langford (played by Ellie Gall). There aren't many details about what the story will involve, except that it will have some action in a desert environment that appears to be Abydos, the Egyptian-style planet from the Stargate movie, in a place the crew refers to as a city of tents. Below you can see an interview with actress Kelly Vint Castro, who played young Catherine Langford in the original movie and will reprise her role in this series.
To be honest, the images don't excite much about a new entry in the Stargate series as a prequel (something that is very much in vogue these days, as seen in Star Trek: Discovery). It is expected that Stargate Origins will premiere before the end of 2017 on Stargate Command, and from this first glimpse it seems it will stand alongside its predecessors, Stargate SG-1, Atlantis, and Universe. Produced by New Form and directed by Mercedes Bryce Morgan, with a script by Mark Ilvedson and Justin Michael Terry, Stargate Origins will consist of ten episodes, each with a duration of ten minutes.
