Steam’s official October 2026 most-played page listed 50 games according to the number of unique players who played their demos during the festival week. Separately, IGN en español and GamingOnLinux reported an unordered 20-title selection from Valve. The first list measures player activity; it is not a review score.
What Steam’s official list measures
Steam’s official October 2026 most-played page describes 50 games whose demos were played most during the event week, measured by unique players. Steam announced that edition of Next Fest for October 19–26, 2026.
IGN en español and GamingOnLinux separately reported a 20-title selection supplied by Valve and described it as unordered. GamingOnLinux said Valve sent the selection by email. The 50-game page and the reported 20-title selection have different stated scopes, so neither gives you a numbered ranking of the 20 games.
Find demos by their play style
GamingOnLinux’s descriptions highlight several options for playing with friends:
- Worst Class Ever is an asymmetric classroom party game for 1–6 players. Five students secretly break rules while one teacher tries to catch them.
- Fart Together is 2–4-player co-op, with players steering a shared raft through obstacle courses using fart-powered propulsion.
- just volleyball offers online or offline 1v1, 2v2, and 6v6 formats.
- Dumpster Gang is a 1–4-player co-op sandbox about raccoons stealing items, completing missions, and evading an Exterminator.
- HANDS OVER is five-player co-op horror built around challenges, bluffing, and sabotaging friends.
- Haunted Paws follows two puppies on a co-op rescue mission in a haunted mansion, with puzzles and creatures along the way.
- Frostrail is a solo or co-op first-person survival shooter set in a frozen wasteland, with an upgradeable steam-powered train.
- Mortuus pits players against zombie waves in solo play or with up to three friends.
- Loftia is an online world centered on farming, crafting, decorating, exploration, and collaboration.
- Wyldheart offers compact co-op action-RPG campaigns in a fantasy kingdom.
- Never Be Alone is open-world survival set ten years after a zombie outbreak, playable alone or with friends.
- No Body No Problem! turns one player into a police officer while the others hide a body and destroy evidence before the officer arrives.
Other picks stand out for their unusual jobs and settings. Probably Stolen - Cyberpunk Shopkeeper Sim mixes shopkeeping, crafting, and smuggling on a dystopian space station. Find The Needle turns a haystack search into an automation loop, while Character House - Desktop Companion focuses on a customizable desktop companion, collectible accessories, and idle rewards. In Abyssal Lapidary, players appraise ores, cut gemstones, and make jewelry for unusual customers. Grr Grr Gnomes sends gnomes sailing between islands to scavenge, fight creatures, and survive disasters.
For action and exploration, ArcheAge Chronicles is a fantasy adventure in the world of Auroria. Emberville combines monster fighting, survivor rescue, settlement rebuilding, and lost-memory investigations. Deadzone Rogue 2 is an FPS roguelite about fighting machines on a ruined Earth, with solo and co-op play.
GamingOnLinux also relayed developer disclosures about generative AI use in two games. Developers of ArcheAge Chronicles described using AI tools as a starting point for some item icons, UI images, map elements, background decorations, and early weapon-model development; the assets were later edited or remodeled. Developers of Never Be Alone disclosed AI use for some ambient background music and a limited number of environmental textures. They said the game’s story, missions, characters, gameplay, and code were made by the team, with human voice acting. Reddit commenters had differing reactions to AI-labelled content and discovery: some asked for filterable AI tags, while others said fun and polish mattered more. Those individual views do not measure AI use across the festival.
Another way to find demos
Mortismal Gaming’s separate showcase is a creator’s subjective selection of ten demos, not an official popularity list. The video includes gameplay footage from Elta Defy All Gods and Guns of Eschaton, offering another way to explore games beyond the player-activity measure.
A unique-player count tells you which demos drew players during the event week. It does not tell you which game you will enjoy most.
