Paul Johnson, also known as Oatking, is a respected 2D animator who is currently working on a project based on Capcom's legendary franchise. Don't miss the trailer for the animated Street Fighter fan film!
Johnson is the 2D animator behind the incredible short Tie Fighter, based on Star Wars. Right now, Oatking is working on a new project: a 20-minute movie based on the Street Fighter game series, drawn in the style of the 1994 animated movie. It's still a work in progress, but there's already a small demo showing the glorious villain M. Bison descending from a flying vehicle alongside his army from the criminal organization Shadaloo. Guile, Cammy, and Juri (the fans' new favorite character) team up to stop the iconic villain, who has become more dangerous than ever.
As with his previous projects, Oatking is meticulously researching every detail of the Street Fighter characters to faithfully adapt each technique and combo as seen in the games. Proof of this is seeing Guile use the Sonic Blade and Solid Puncher from Street Fighter V, while Cammy uses her signature Cannon Drill. An interesting detail is that the flying vehicle M. Bison appears on in the video is the same one from the animated film Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie. The video also shows some sketches from the animation process, exposing rough uncolored animations up to the finished design we'll see in the movie.
There's no estimated release date yet, but considering that TIE Fighter took about four years to complete and was shorter than the mentioned 20 minutes of this project, we might have to wait a while to see it.
