“The danger waiting in an alley.” A classic, isn't it? What do you picture? A guy with a knife demanding your wallet? A drug addict desperate for the next fix? Many Foundation members wake up each day wishing for that kind of “danger.” Unfortunately, they don't have that privilege, and never will. It's the price of truth, friend. The horrors that lurk around us are very different, as you know well. Their hatred and hunger are common, but then there are those who play with their food and enjoy the hunt…
One of them is loose. Not because the Foundation likes the idea or finds it convenient, but because they haven't discovered a way to contain it properly. It's cunning, intelligent. It has great patience, and always finds a distracted person, without exception. Maybe someone tries to cut across a construction zone on the way home… or an alley. And that someone vanishes into thin air, leaving no trace.
The worst part is that at first glance it seems harmless, just another graffiti on a wall like many others. The body of a man with feathers, claws, and the head of an owl. Those who have seen it (and survived) have described different poses, but with the same essence: the feeling that it wants to attack, to hunt. It also acts on the minds of those who see it. Somehow, it imprints on them the desire to approach… and study it more closely. Just like the black devil and its lure…
The Predator
Now, the truth is that it doesn't like to have an audience. If more than one person is watching, SCP-1155 (that's its designation) will remain completely still. However, if the poor devil in question approaches within two meters and nobody else is around, the scene becomes a carnage.
SCP-1155 attacks its victim by ripping out the tongue, eyes, hands, and feet. Then it cuts and extracts the internal organs, with a preference for the intestines and stomach. Finally, it pierces the head… as if a giant pickaxe were used. After that… both disappear.
Obviously, the Foundation tried to track them. It gave a couple of Class D personnel equipped with GPS, but never managed to determine their position. SCP-1155 takes less than seven days to reappear, and always picks an urban area, though not too exposed. It also changes position when it's not having much luck, but it has been seen waiting up to four months before moving.
The Foundation discovered that it can force SCP-1155 to relocate, either by damaging the surface it's on or by trying to enclose it. Another option is to interrupt its attacks. All you have to do is look at the victim while it's being… disemboweled.
Containment Challenges
The problem with these relocations is that the Foundation cannot control them. Its minimum recorded distance is about fifteen meters, but SCP-1155 has managed to move 800 kilometers in a single event. Several agents from task force Pi-1 found it in an abandoned subway station and thought it was a good idea to cover it with an old vending machine until containment reinforcements arrived.
SCP-1155 responded by jumping to a children's park… Several parents lost their little ones that day. Today, SCP-1155 is in a shopping mall that the Foundation had to buy and close. For now it seems comfortable there, but we don't know how much longer it will last. Who knows? Maybe it will pay us a visit…
