For the third consecutive year, The Game Awards ceremony took place, honoring achievements in the video game industry. Below, we bring you a report from The Game Awards 2016, where we highlight the awards for the best games of 2016.
Overwatch (Blizzard Entertainment)
Game of the Year - Best Studio / Game Direction - Best Multiplayer
Blizzard Entertainment's new online FPS not only won Game of the Year but also Best Multiplayer. Special mention goes to the company for winning Best Studio. And it's no wonder, since Overwatch pits players in two teams of six, with each player selecting one of several heroes, each with their own movements, attributes, and special abilities. Through this system, the game offers four main modes and several maps for players to have fun. Developed by Blizzard Entertainment, Overwatch is available on Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
Best Narrative - Best Performance
The story that ends Nathan Drake's adventures undoubtedly stands out for its excellent, cinematic narrative, and for the work of Nolan North, the actor who voices the protagonist of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. The game takes you on a journey from the United States to Madagascar, passing through Italy, Panama, and the United Kingdom, in a tale of conspiracies and hidden treasures. Besides its excellent main campaign, you have a full multiplayer mode offering several different modes to compete against players from around the world, so the fun never ends. Developed by Naughty Dog, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is available exclusively on PlayStation 4.

Best Art Direction - Best Indie Game
From the creators of Limbo, Inside is a game where you control a boy in a dystopian world, traversing various scenarios where a group of scientists conduct experiments with strange creatures. Both the theme and the monochromatic visual style are similar to Playdead's first game, as is the gameplay, where you have to solve different environmental puzzles while avoiding death in side-scrolling 2.5D environments. In fact, the various deaths the protagonist can suffer are all very realistic and often graphic. A worthy successor to Limbo, indeed. Developed by Playdead, Inside is available on Xbox One, Windows, and PlayStation 4.
DOOM
Best Music/Sound Design - Best Action Game
The return of DOOM has everything fans were waiting for and much more. The iconic Marine is back to fight the demonic forces of Hell unleashed by the Union Aerospace Corporation on Mars. The game maintains a faster pace with more open levels, closer to the first two games rather than the slower survival-horror approach of Doom 3. It also features an online multiplayer mode and a map editor for hours and hours of fun. Developed by id Software, DOOM is available on Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
That Dragon, Cancer
Games for Change
The autobiographical game is based on Ryan and Amy Green's experience raising their son Joel, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer at twelve months old, and although he was only given a little time to live, he continued surviving for four more years before finally succumbing to cancer. That Dragon, Cancer is designed for the player to experience the lows and highs of this period in the style of a point-and-click adventure game, using the medium's interactivity and immersion to tell the story in a way a film cannot. Developed by Numinous Games, That Dragon, Cancer is available on Windows, OS X, Ouya, and iOS devices.
Pokémon Go
Best Mobile/Handheld Game - Best Family Game
The mobile phenomenon of Pikachu and friends drove its followers crazy. Using the mobile GPS location to locate, capture, battle, and train Pokémon, the game unleashed a wave of players roaming the city in search of their favorite monsters. So much so that there were even some curious cases discovered through this title. Today, Pokémon Go is not as played as in its first months, but it still maintains a loyal group of followers who continue to roam the streets to catch 'em all. Developed by Niantic, Pokémon Go is available on iOS, Android, and Apple Watch devices.
Rez Infinite
Best VR Game
In late 2001, Rez came out for Dreamcast and PlayStation 2, combining two genres: music and rail shooter. Taking the role of a hacker who enters an AI's system, the goal is to destroy all viruses or firewalls that appear until reaching the exact location of the AI to reboot it. The striking thing is that typical sounds are replaced by electronic music, creating melodies as you destroy enemies. Rez Infinite is a remake of the original game that takes advantage of the new resolutions, sound, and virtual reality of Sony's console. Developed by United Game Artists, Rez Infinite is available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR.
Dishonored 2
Best Action/Adventure Game
The sequel to Dishonored takes place fifteen years after the events starring Corvo Attano. Dishonored 2 maintains the action/adventure style with first-person stealth elements. Now you can play as both Corvo and Emily Kaldwin, who each employ their own variety of supernatural abilities. As in the first game, there are many ways to succeed in each mission, whether purely through stealth or using violence. There are multiple endings that depend on the play style you choose. Developed by Arkane Studios, Dishonored 2 is available on Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Blood and Wine

Blood and Wine is the second and final expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which won the Best RPG category. The expansion follows Geralt as he travels to Toussaint, a duchy of Nilfgaard unaffected by war, where a mysterious beast is terrorizing the region. Blood and Wine puts an end to Geralt of Rivia's story, a character who over the years has provided great doses of fun with an excellent trilogy. Developed by CD Projekt RED, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Blood and Wine is available on Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
Street Fighter V
Best Fighting Game
The fifth installment (sixth if we count the Alpha series) of Street Fighter delighted us again with classic fights. Along with the usual characters, four new fighters join: Necalli, Rashid, Laura Matsuda, and F.A.N.G. But the news doesn't end there, as the game introduces the V-Gauge mechanic, which lets you use new abilities as you take hits. Street Fighter V was praised for its graphics and gameplay, also featuring an online multiplayer mode that keeps fans constantly competing. Developed by Capcom along with Dimps, Street Fighter V is available on PlayStation 4 and Windows.
Sid Meier's Civilization VI

Build. Conquer. Inspire. That's the motto of Sid Meier's Civilization VI. As in other games in the series, the goal is to lead a civilization through many millennia to become a world power and achieve one of several victory conditions, such as military might, technological superiority, or diplomatic leadership. To achieve this, you must explore the world, found new cities, build improvements, deploy military troops to attack and defend against other civilizations, and engage in trade and negotiations with other world leaders. Forza Horizon 3

Forza Horizon 3 is set in an open environment in Australia, with a map twice the size of Forza Horizon 2, and includes locations like Surfers Paradise, Byron Bay, Yarra Valley, and the Outback. The game boasts a total of 350 available cars (the most cars in a Horizon game to date). The nineteenth installment of the classic Legend of Zelda franchise will be the first original Zelda game developed in HD resolution. The story of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is set in Hyrule and stars Link, who wakes up amnesiac from a hundred-year sleep where a mysterious voice guides him to defeat Calamity Ganon. The gameplay constitutes a departure from series conventions, with an open world environment and an advanced physics engine, as well as the ability to play through the game's dungeons in any order. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is being developed by Nintendo and will be available on Wii U and Nintendo Switch sometime in 2017.
