We're within a breath of Christmas, a time that often causes a lot of tension… but this year we have the advantage that it falls on a Monday, which means an extra day to explore the catalog of free games we've built so far. The 'problem' is that the folks at Epic once again decided to give away a game per day until next January 4, and although not all of them deserve our attention, we only have 24 hours to claim them, so there will surely be something in the list we can't let pass.
2023 has been a real whirlwind for video games. High-profile failures, performance issues, price increases, information leaks, and layoffs across all studios were mixed with several successes that definitely hit the mark of becoming the 'best of the year.'
And amid all that noise, as always, the legion of free games appears. In recent weeks I've shared some of the most interesting titles, in addition to returning to true classics with modern ports. But today I'm faced with a 'problem': There are too many free games. Not going too far, the Epic Games Store is giving away one per day, and the Web has gone into overdrive trying to predict which will be the 17 chosen by the store.
Epic Gives Away a Game a Day During the Holidays
The announcement was published on December 13 as part of the Holiday Sale that the Epic Games Store will hold until January 10. This event includes unlimited discount coupons, improved rewards, and cosmetic packs compatible with different games. The first title was actually a pack for Destiny 2, Legacy Collection, equivalent to about $60 of expansions. The second, DNF Duel, appeared a week later, and offers a good dose of punches for fighting game fans. The third game, which has a little over five hours left, is Melvor Idle, an idle game inspired by RuneScape that basically runs in the background, and is ideal for those seeking a more casual experience.

Many charlatans with their fake crystal balls have shared entire lists of games on the Web, but they quickly ended up in the trash. My only recommendation is to calculate the time, and check a couple of hours before the end if you're interested in adding the game to your collection or not.

GOG Also Has Its Giveaway
As expected, the folks at Good Old Games kicked off their Winter Sale, and with it came a couple of free games. The first came around last week, Legend of Keepers, which for some reason I can't stop playing (if the plan was to turn me into an addict... mission accomplished, I guess). And the second was Lost Ruins, a 2D survival-platformer that destroys gamepads and brings out the worst in us (?). The most likely thing is that the next free GOG game will be known next week, so radar on.
