Less than 24 hours remain until Windows 11 makes its official debut, and we essentially face two immediate problems: Microsoft's poor communication and the lack of resources to customize its content. Fortunately, there are resources like ThisIsWin11, which behaves similarly to the classic PowerToys. The idea is that you can uninstall apps in Windows 11 without difficulty (especially those integrated into the operating system), but it also includes scripts to optimize its configuration, and a mini tutorial that explains the main changes of the new version.
For better or worse, Windows 11 is a fact. In the coming days, the specialized press will study its stable build closely and conduct all kinds of experiments. Personally, I plan to challenge its technical requirements from start to finish, installing copies on machines that Microsoft declared obsolete with a snap.
However, the story doesn't end there. Redmond has made (or rather, maintained) some decisions in Windows 11 that we don't like too much. The excess of preinstalled apps isn't as severe as in Windows 10, but you'll most likely want to clean up a bit. At the same time, all the privacy details remain in effect, and you'll need to spend a few minutes on that... unless you seek help. That help arrives through ThisIsWin11.
Optimize Windows 11 settings with ThisIsWin11
First and foremost, ThisIsWin11 acts as a presenter of the operating system. New appearance, new start menu, notification center, file explorer, the official store... everything appears there, and each entry has a shortcut (called "Preview this Page") that will take you directly to that element. The app doesn't forget anything, but the most important part is found in the System and Apps categories.
The System section allows you to customize the appearance of Windows 11, modify its privacy parameters, and disable secondary elements, such as telemetry. Obviously, the effectiveness of these options will depend on the edition installed, but if you click the Check button, ThisIsWin11 will make a recommendation about everything it can process.
How to uninstall apps in Windows 11
On the other hand, the Apps section is exclusively dedicated to uninstalling apps in Windows 11, including those integrated into the operating system and those that remain hidden. To simplify the process even further, ThisIsWin11 shares a preset with the main examples of bloatware (click on the three dots, then another click on Import bloatware list). The apps are placed in an internal recycle bin in ThisIsWin11, and when you click on Empty Recycle Bin, all applications present in the system will be removed.
Finally, ThisIsWin11 offers us a section called Packages (an alternative to the store to install very popular programs), and another called Automate, with scripts to remove telemetry from external programs (Chrome, Dropbox, Google Update, etc.), delete OneDrive from Windows 11, update the store apps that we do want, and activate the maximum performance profile in power settings.
