Business Insider España reported on October 29, 2026, that U.S. authorities suspected Megaspeed affiliates in Malaysia and Indonesia of diverting about $2 billion in Nvidia H100/H800 chips to China. The account of a New York Times investigation also said authorities suspected Megaspeed executive Alice Huang of passing information to Beijing.
What authorities reportedly suspected
The investigation reportedly began in late 2024, after a U.S. Commerce Department official found Nvidia equipment still boxed at a Megaspeed data center in Malaysia. The reported route involved affiliates in Malaysia and Indonesia.
The two figures measure different things
ImportGenius records cited in the account showed at least $4.8 billion in purchases of equipment using Nvidia technology by Megaspeed’s Malaysian subsidiary from June 2024 through February 2026. That figure counts equipment purchases; the roughly $2 billion figure is the alleged value of H100/H800 chips authorities suspected were diverted.
What the named parties said
The espionage suspicion concerned Alice Huang. The account described Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s CEO, as a potential target and said he had not been briefed on the intelligence investigation. Nvidia spokesperson John Rizzo said Jensen Huang’s interactions with Alice Huang were ordinary customer meetings. Nvidia also said it had investigated and rejected the smuggling allegations.
Megaspeed announced an independent internal investigation and said it was willing to cooperate with U.S. authorities. China’s Embassy in Washington rejected the allegations as unfounded.
Other investigations involved different parties
In the separate Operation Gatekeeper case, Alan Hao Hsu and Hao Global pleaded guilty on October 10, 2025. Newsweek reported that the case involved at least $160 million in Nvidia H100/H200 GPUs exported or targeted for export between October 2024 and May 2025. More than $50 million in GPUs and cash were seized.
A separate Taiwan investigation involved three detained people and about 50 seized Super Micro servers containing Nvidia chips, according to Bloomberg, as reported by Investing.com on May 27, 2026. That account also said at least one shipment had passed Taiwan customs.
