The Story So Far…
Steam and Good Old Games will end their Winter Sale on January 4. In contrast, the Epic Games Store will extend until the 10th of the same month. As always, Steam's strategy is based on offering discounts for specific titles and entire franchises. For example, if you want to dip your toes into the Warhammer universe or enjoy a more classic Star Wars, this is the best time… but free games are not really found there.
Many users have mentioned that the first part of the giveaway on the Epic Games Store was disappointing, but things improved greatly since last Friday. All who have followed each release now have fabulous games in their possession, and if for some reason you missed them, well… let this serve to improve your aim on the remaining days.
The Free Games from Epic in the Last Week
Art of Rally: The so-called Group B in rally competitions separated boys from men… and also killed some people. Art of Rally takes us to a parallel universe where Group B was never canceled, and the competitions remain extreme, with brutal cars, excellent low-poly graphics, good sound, and gameplay that will demand the best from you.
Fallout 3 GOTY Edition: That's right, the Epic Games Store gave away the official leap of Fallout into the 3D universe. Its central story may be a classic "son-seeks-father" tale, but the Wasteland has much more to offer than we imagined. As it is the GOTY version, this copy of Fallout 3 already includes all downloadable packs, and the best part is that it works even on a fuel dispenser.
Ghostwire Tokyo: No, it's not a mistake. Ghostwire: Tokyo debuted in March of last year, and Xbox consoles had to wait until April of this year to receive it. The combination of cyberpunk with demons and spirits is unusual, but it manages to present an interesting story, beyond some repetitive moments. More than six million people were playing it in September.
The Outer Worlds Spacer's Choice Edition: The Outer Worlds sought to answer a question in 2019: What if Obsidian had continued developing Fallout games? After all, New Vegas is one of the best, and with greater creative freedom, The Outer Worlds gives us a fabulous story, class conflicts, excellent voices, and more than one ending. This is the remastered version, with its DLCs included.
Human Resource Machine: This one is… different. In Human Resource Machine, the player must take control of their avatar and perform multiple actions through a visual programming process. The game seems little more than an experiment on the surface, but it has 40 puzzles that increase in difficulty, demanding "better code", so to speak.
Cursed to Golf: A professional golfer annihilated by lightning, his fall into purgatory, and the only way to escape is... playing the best golf of his life. TNT, teleportation, fans, extra shots, special cards, catchy music (maybe too catchy) and quality pixel art make Cursed to Golf a challenging game that will make us come back for more until we reach the end.
Cat Quest: If you like cats and role-playing games, Cat Quest offers the perfect combination. A hero, his kidnapped sister, evil dragons, ancient civilizations, and a twist at the end make Cat Quest a title worth exploring closely. This is the most recent free game on the Epic Games Store, and it still has one hour left.
And What About GOG?
Good Old Games' pace for free games is not as intense, but that doesn't make it less interesting. On the contrary, after Caveblazers came the graphic adventure Lacuna inspired by a sci-fi/noir combination, and now it's the turn of South of the Circle, another adventure in which the main character will be forced to make decisions with great emotional weight while trying to survive the hostility of the Antarctic continent.
In short, if this doesn't convince you to claim all the free games during the holidays, nothing will. Good luck!
