In an amendment filed on November 2, 2026, Anthropic reported $16.956 billion in revenue for the third quarter and about $895.4 billion in aggregate purchase and lease commitments, substantially all related to compute and infrastructure. The commitments cover future obligations, not money already spent. The filing’s interim financial statements are unaudited. (SEC filing)
Anthropic’s Q3 results separate revenue from losses
For the three months ended September 30, Anthropic reported $17.523 billion in operating expenses. Under generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), it recorded a $567 million operating loss and a separate $23.291 billion net loss.
| Q3 2026 measure | Amount | What it measures |
| Revenue | $16.956 billion | Revenue for the three months ended September 30, 2026 |
| Operating expenses | $17.523 billion | GAAP expenses from operations for the quarter |
| Operating loss | $567 million | GAAP result from operations for the quarter |
| Net loss | $23.291 billion | GAAP result after operating and below-operating items |
| Adjusted operating income | $2.463 billion | Anthropic-defined non-GAAP measure for the quarter |
Revenue was $1.382 billion in Q3 2025 and $11.555 billion in Q2 2026. Those figures put the latest quarter’s growth in context, but revenue alone does not describe profit or cash flow.
The net loss was much larger than the operating loss largely because of a $21.936 billion fair-value expense tied to convertible notes, derivative liabilities and SAFEs. A fair-value expense reflects an accounting remeasurement; it is not a measure of compute spending during the quarter. Anthropic said the changes were driven primarily by higher fair values for outstanding convertible notes as its enterprise valuation rose. The company also reported $1.640 billion in other expense.
Anthropic’s $2.463 billion adjusted operating income is a separate, non-GAAP measure. The company’s calculation excludes stock-based compensation, non-cash charitable contributions and the Bartz settlement, so it does not replace the GAAP operating loss.
Revenue, operating income, net income, cash flow and future commitments measure different parts of a company’s finances.
Nine-month results show a different picture from net loss alone
For the nine months ended September 30, 2026, Anthropic reported $33.242 billion in revenue, a $1.260 billion GAAP operating loss and a $104.039 billion GAAP net loss. The period’s fair-value expense for convertible notes, derivative liabilities and SAFEs was $94.324 billion.
Cash-flow measures tell another part of the story: Anthropic reported $6.569 billion in cash provided by operating activities and $36.546 billion used in investing activities during those nine months. At September 30, cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments totaled $131.845 billion. These figures describe distinct accounting measures and periods; the net loss is not the same as operating cash consumed.
What Anthropic’s $895.4 billion in commitments covers
The aggregate includes purchase commitments, short-term commitments, leases that had not yet commenced and agreements entered into after September 30. About $213.8 billion of the total was subject to exercisable termination rights or contingent conditions before commencement.
| Commitment disclosure | Amount | Timing and scope |
| Aggregate purchase and lease commitments | About $895.4 billion | Includes commitments as of and after September 30, 2026; substantially all relate to compute and infrastructure |
| Portion subject to termination rights or contingent conditions | About $213.8 billion | Part of the aggregate total |
| Commitments due in the following 12 months | About $69.8 billion | After September 30, 2026; about $4.3 billion was subject to termination rights or contingent conditions |
| Commitments expected before December 31, 2030 | About $447.5 billion | Part of the aggregate total |
| Arrangements without fixed dollar commitments | Estimated $150 billion to $175 billion | Separate from the aggregate; payable after capacity is delivered |
The $150 billion to $175 billion estimate is not included in the $895.4 billion aggregate. It covers arrangements without fixed dollar commitments, with payment due after capacity delivery. The filing also says short-term compute cost significantly more than comparable compute under multiyear commitments.
